ABY MIDI

Post by Manhell »

I think voodoo lab guys should do an upgrade to the amp selector and put midi in it, also could do an ABY box with midi. I know that the pedal switcher can do the A/B but it cannot do the Y right? and the GCX you need to have Y cables to split into two amps. get me right if I'm wrong, and expose your opinions about it.

Yes, the last loop of a Pedal Switcher can be used as an A/B switch. All of the GCX's loops can be used as A/B because they are all isolated with independent In-Send-Return-Out jacks.

You can see here that the Y-cable method is used to send the signal to 3 different preamps: http://www.voodoolab.com/gcxdiagrams/04 ... werAmp.pdf

Most likely, Amp Selector will stay as is. But, that's not to say that we don't see a need for a MIDI controlled version. It's just not on the schedule right now since a GCX can mostly perform those same functions. (Although, Amp Selector does have transformer isolated outs which helps to eliminate ground hum across all your amps.)

Thanks for your suggestions and keep them coming.

Not the thread creator, but the problem arises with ground loops because of no isolation. It would be easier and probably cheaper to just make it relay controlled so a gcx or control switcher could do it. Why have midi when you don't need it.

Easier than that, you can simply add external isolation transformers to a GCX based rig. If possible, you're better off solving your ground issues, but when that isn't practical, a transformer is a simple solution.

Thank you. Glad you guys put a forum up, I like the layout and extra stuff on here.

Thanks again for commenting Josh.

I know there's the rig builders who can make iso boxes(lasd, racksystems).
Another solution is the lehle p-split but using only the iso'd out on one loop and the other normal.

the lehle p-split II is even better! I have done lots of tests with the lehle iso transformers and they are of outstanding quality. if there's no other way to solve your problem, use those.

Is the p-split II better? Do find that the transformer outs of the lehle splitters/switchers are pretty transparent?.

I've read a lot of good things about his transformer, even when compared to Jensen.

Thanks Mibu.
