Newbie building a Rack

Hi everyone ! I have been reading posts on this forum, since a few years, but more intensively since approx 2 months now. I've got a good idea of how I want to build my rack but any suggestions, ideas or help would be more than welcome. I want a WET/DRY/WET rig using the Triaxis and or the Quad as my dry.

I want to be able to use the Boss RT-20 and the G-Major with both preamps separately and only on the Triaxis when both preamps are active. To sum it all, both preamps will send a dry signal and a wet signal which will go into the effects and then go to their respective amps.

On my pedalboard, I'll have the ground control, the FU-2 footswitch, the Mad Professor Sweet Honey, the volume pedal, the expression pedal and finally the Wah.

Another question: I don't remember having seen a post regarding where to put all the devices into the rack, considering the heat produced by some of them.

I believe your diagram setup would be great. Right on!

For heat concerns you could leave a blank space above the worst offenders... the preamps and the power amp. The 2:90 does have a fan in it so you'll want to be sure that is as clear as possible (ie. not a bunch of cables tucked in front of the fan guard on the side.) and be sure to have the front and rear of the rack open whenever it is in use. Do you have a rack already? How many spaces is it? I think I count that you'll need at least 12 spaces for this rig... I can't remember is the Quad 3 or 4 spaces?

Yes, indeed I have a rack, in fact, 2 racks, 10 spaces, and 4 spaces. The quad is a 3 spaces unit and the 2:90 is a 2 spaces unit and all the other are single space unit, so if I integrate the Furman power conditioner that I forgot to mention in my previous post, then I'm at a total of 11 spaces. So could it be a good idea to put the 2:90 in is own rack ?? If yes is it a good idea to plug the AC cord from the 2:90 into one of the outlets from the Furman ?? Also, have you ever heard of the Humfrees !? Are they useful and effective ??

I think the humfrees are overpriced for what they are but haven’t used them.
I’ve used Middle Atlantic shoulder washers for my racks and good screws that come with nylon washers such as Middle Atlantic HW series. These are 10/32 to, not sure if your racks are these or 6mm. The shoulder washers from Middle Atlantic won’t work with 6mm. Not sure if the humfrees will either.

I just don't quite understand how the shoulder washers work.....The Shoulder washers go into the 10/32 hole in the rack, then you use the rack screws with nylon washers into the Shoulder washers. So my question is, does the Shoulder washer are filtered ?? If not, do I need nylon nuts to make this works ?? And also what do you think of using two racks, one for the amps and the other one for everything else !!

The flat side, the side opposite to what you see on the website above, goes against the rack rail. The raised lip on the side you see, goes into your rack equipment mounting hole. This isolates your rack equipment from your rack rail and stops the screw from touch your rack equipment.
The screw has a nylon washer just under the head of it so that it doesn’t touch your rack equipment.

Hope this clarifies it for you. I’ll have to take a pick when I get home in a few days, I’m at work at the moment, R&R soon

I’d put your Power Amp in the seperate rack, just run a power cord to it from the furman and 2 instrument cables for the sound

What I don't understand is, in the shoulder washer there are no treads, so how does the screw can do its job to hold the device secure against the rack rail? If I'm right, shoulder washer looks like this https://www.sdproducts.co.uk/nylon-shou ... -nsw-01310, so once you put the screw in it do you have to put a nut? Sorry if I'm having a hard time figuring it out :S

Hi there,
No nut needed, the shoulder washer goes into the rack ear from behind, it is held there by the screw. The screw is isolated from the rack ear by the shoulder of the shoulder washer and the nylon washer under the head of the screw. The screw just screws straight into the rack rail as it usually would, just through the shoulder washer.

I don’t think the shoulder washer you show will work, the shoulder is to long. The Middle Atlantic one is what you want.
