Here's a good one...

Post by dogbitesman »

So I'm currently using a Diezel Herbert and a Bogner Twin Jet live but have to use two seperate footswitches to control each channel on the two amps. The Diezel uses either midi or XLR to change the channels and the Bogner is 1/4 inch. I need to find a solution that I change program various channel combinations for both heads using one foot controller. Any ideas? Please help! Thanks for reading

Sincerely,
Jason

Can we assume you are using a GCP/GCX setup? Are you using your two amps at the same time with different channel settings?

Im not using any system right now but what we are asuming I'm using actually work? And the answer is yes to the other question. I want to use two different channel settings on two different amps at the same time from one switch. Does that help? Thanks for the reply.

Does the Twin Jet have only a single button footswitch with a mono 1/4" connection or is there other switchable functions on it with a stereo (TRS) 1/4"? Either way, the Bogner should be able to be controlled from the GCX or the soon to be released Control Switcher. The Herbert can be directly MIDI controlled from either the Commander or the Ground Control Pro.

You could use the Voodoo Lab Commander and the Control Switcher to give you 10 presets that can consist of any combination of the switchable amp functions. The Ground control Pro can also control the Control Switcher for more presets and more switching options if the rig is going to grow. With a Ground Control Pro as the controller you can use the GCX to control the Bogner as well as bypass switch any other devices in the rig like effects pedals or effect processors... I guess we got you covered in a few ways really, is there anything else you will be switching in this rig?

Not being overly familiar with the features of your 2 amps I'd being taking a guess but....

Since your Diezel has MIDI you could setup up a preset (or presets) on a Ground Control Pro to send a MIDI program change messages to get the amp to change stored "programs".

I'm not sure about how your Bogner changes channels. I do have a couple of amps (Marshall and Carvin) that change channels by grounding the tip connection on a 1/4" mono or TRS plug. A GCX could accomplish this. You would probably have to make up a plug that grounds the centre conductor when the appriate GCX loop is turned on by the GCP.

Sounds good so far. The Bogner uses two 1/4in plugs. One for the fx loop and the other for channel switching. The footswitch that I have for the diezel is a midi footswitch already. Could I use that instead of the ground control?

It would appear then that you would need 2-3 loops to control the Bogner... usually the Reverb jack is mono and will connect to a single GCX loop, and the Channel jack often has a second switchable function, like Boost, and uses a stereo(TRS) jack that will connect to two loops via an Insert Cable. But then saying "usual" and "Bogner" in the same sentence can get a guy in trouble! ;)

I don't know what the MIDI capabilities of the Diezel footswitch would be beyond simply controlling the amplifier directly. Is this footswitch somehow programmable?
