Recommend me some cabling

Post by satchaholic »

Hey guys,
Doing the cabling for the rig and need to replace the (my mistake) TRS cables used throughout.

Need enough for 6 loops from the gcx. Not big on the idea of having to make my own, but will if necessary. What does everyone here use and what is the best place online to get them?

When I purchased cables, I eventually settled on LiveWire. They seem to be the best balance between cost and not breaking on you two days after you buy 'em. I hate to admit it, but Guitar Center seemed to have them for a reasonable price.

But I'm buying the raw cable now and building them. Supplies from Redco. It's way cheaper and I can set 'em to whatever length I need, with whatever ends I want.

I believe somebody makes a solderless cable-making kit, too, in case you don't want to use an iron.

The solderless route is the way I go...I don't take my rig apart much, so the cables are where they are, if you're going to be plugging in/unplugging a lot I would definitely go for the soldered connection. But some brands I've used and never had a problem with any are : George L's, Planet Waves, and Lava solderless cables...they all work a lil different so just read the instructions and be patient, make clean cuts blah, blah, blah.

Good Luck

I usually use George L cables but I solder Switchcraft tip ends to them as I do a lot of gigging and (and used to do a fair amount of touring) and the solderless connectors would just shake loose after a few hundred miles in the back of the van causing potentially gig haulting shorts.

I use the small barrel Switchcraft 1/4" plugs and a couple of different types of Switchcraft right angle plugs (depending on the application). :)

Uh-oh.

What's the difference between TS & TRS as it relates to Voodoo Lab Switcher/Commander rigs?

I'm about to make a ton of cables for use w/ pedal switcher & commander; I got a bunch of TS connectors.

TS connectors are correct for connecting the pedals to the Pedal Switcher Loops. The only connector that is TRS on the Pedal Switcher is the Insert which allows you to route something between Loop 3 and Loop 4.
