Using two Expression Pedals - Problem

Post by Trueman »

Hi John or anyone who can share some light:

I am using 2 GCX's and Ground Control with two expression pedals. One is set for delay mix and one for a whammy. When Im in edit mode, only one pedal will give the feedback status, however if I have one fully toe down then the other will work and vise versa. Its kinda hard to explain. Also the midi feedback lights on the GCX only work for one expression pedal at a time (can be either). So basically when both pedals are plugged into the GC Pro, neither work, they only work one at a time. Its like one is jamming the other and vise versa. Im using the Proel Volume pedal http://www.velvetsystems.com/Proel.GF12 ... .Pedal.cfm they both register 0-127 so full range

Any insight appreciated.

Hello Trueman,

One or both of the pedals are connected backwards. Try swapping the In and Out connections on the pedals. Let us know what you find.

What do u mean backward there's a correct way to plug those things? I have Ernie balls. Should the input or output be connected to the tip? I'm using 2 y cable... My pedals don't react as much as I'd like too sometimes. Maybe that's why.

It turns out that not all volume pedals are wired the same way so there is no one right way for me to say how to connect them for everyone. I can say that the Ernie Ball pedals will always be connected as shown in the Ground Control Pro manual with an Insert Point Cable, not a Y Cable.
The best bet is to connect the pedals and check if moving one affects the other, if so you have to do some connection swapping until everything behaves properly... not once in the history of the product has this cross talk been the fault of the Ground Control Pro, I'm not even sure that it is a possible failure.

I will have to guess that this is a different problem than what Trueman is experiencing. When you look at the Pedal screen within a Ground Control Pro preset do you see the numbers slew from 0-127 when you move the proper pedal? If so, then the device being controlled will likely be where you need to look to to remedy this problem. If you can give us a descriptive example of when the pedals sometimes don't react enough, perhaps we can get to the bottom of it faster.

ho ok. sry I didnt use the right term. I did a research on insert point cable... and thats what I meant not a y cable. one stereo going to 2 mono..

and yes both register from 0 to 127. I tried reversing my cable and the problem trueman described appeared. So I suspect my cable are ok the way they were.

I first panicked because I had the problem he described when the switch inside the pedal was set to the right. but when I set them both to left the problem disapeared. I red somewhere that this switch sets diffirent curves on the pedal so I dont know why it did this...

as for not reacting as much as I wanted. I changed my vol settings on the gmajor 2 to min 40% mid 100% max 100%. and now it reacts as I want it to.

btw what is the waranty on the GCP. cause my button 3 (-/NO) works only 1 times out of 5..

Hi John the problem still exists, actually it seemed to work for five minutes then stopped working again. I reversed the insert cables on the volume pedal end and made sure P1=>Whammy and P2=>Echo Pro were set correctly Tried different insert cables and also different volume pedals (Ernie ball Volume Jnr). I will keep trying but this has got me truly stumped. Will try and post a video to illustrate as I suspect there are a few others who may have/had a similar issue. Will keep you posted.

Looking only at the Ground Control Pro for a moment, you should confirm that moving one expression pedal does not affect the displayed position of the other expression pedal while you are at the P1 or P2 screen within any Ground Control Pro preset. This will confirm that the physical connections are correct.
