Pedal Switcher - Pre-Amp in TRS loop?

Post by danbrett »

Dear Forum,
I have a Voodoo Labs Pedal Switcher on order. Can I use it to control effects both Pre-Amp (wah, comp, OD) and Post-Amp (Digital Delay etc..)?

I plan to use the TRS insert to carry the signal to my amp (a Mesa Boogie Express) then go back into the insert from the effects out loop.
Then I would connect the end of the pedal switcher to the effects return loop on the amp.
E.g.: Loop 1, 2, 3, PRE-AMP then TRS out goes to amp, TRS in comes from Amps effects send output, Loop 4 is in Amp's effects loop and end of switcher goes back into amp's loop return.

Is this feasible? Or are there issues I'm not aware of? What kind of TRS cable is needed as I think there are impedance differences between the signals before a guitar amp and in the effects loop.

Thanks in advance for your time on this ;-)

Regards,

Dan

This is possible, however you may run into trouble due to having the instrument level signal running so close to the preamp effect send, which is likely line level. This could cause oscillation, a.k.a. gnarly feedback, problems... or it may not.;) I'd plug it all in and try it out. The cable needed will be an Insert Point cable. Good Luck!

Thanks John. The switcher is in transit I'll let you know if it works when I test it out. Regards, Dan
