The best way to see if everything will work without hum is to try it!
You can't hurt anything so, if you have a hum after connecting everything as you want, then use a wire or Breakout Box to connect the RTN and OUT grounds.
If you still have hum then there is another loop somewhere that you will have to trace..

Can't we make use of the two guitar inputs/outputs and then tie each one to in/return respectively? Although that means that only one guitar would have been buffered?
