Problem with PX8+ and MIDI

Post by KTcentral »

Hello, I'm new to the world of MIDI and have acquired your PX8+.
I'm having a hard time " saving " my program changes.
Let me explain:
the MIDI Out of the PX8+ is connected to the MIDI In (MIDI TRS cable) of my Wampler Terraform and the Thru output of my Wampler Terraform (MIDI TRS cable) is connected to the MIDI In of my Source Audio Collider.
First problem: when the 2 pedals are connected in this way, changing presets on the Voodoo Lab PX8 will only cause presets to be changed on the Collider and not on the 2 pedals simultaneously...
Second problem: but how to save program changes from the PX8+ to a MIDI device? This is not explained at all in the manual.
For example: I would like my Preset BANK 1 Preset A on the PX8+ to correspond to a preset change on Terraform on what is stored for example in preset 4. How do I do this? I have succeeded a few times but always by chance. (All my devices are on Channel 1)
Thank you for your lights.
David

The PX-8 Plus will send a unique Program Change with each preset on MIDI Channel 1. You will want to be sure all connected MIDI devices are in fact set to respond using MIDI Channel 1.

The preset programming isn't necessarily explained since it will largely be done on your connected devices and they are all going to require different steps to accomplish this task. This is commonly called MIDI Mapping where you will send a Program Change and set each device to respond to this Program Change in the manner you prefer.

For your Terraform, each PX-8 Plus preset should certainly recall a patch on the effect, but it may be initially limited to responding only to the first eight PX-8 Plus presets. In the Terraform Manual under the Presets section look to Saving Presets. Here it is described when you should send a Program Change to associate it with the saved sound in the Terraform.
For your Collider, it appears that its User Presets are fixed to responding to the same numbered Program Change so you will need to program the Collider to make the sound you want after recalling a PX-8 Plus preset. The PX-8 Plus has 36 presets, Preset A in Bank 0 will recall User Preset 1 on the Collider, and preset D in Bank 9 will recall User Preset 36 on the Collider. It will be up to you to program each Collider User Preset to make the sound you want. For any PX-8 Plus presets that you want the Collider to make the same sound, you will need to program both Collider User Presets the same way.

I hope that helps!

Hi John,
I just joined the group but I've had the PX8+ for a couple of years. I was wondering if you were able to use the MIDI function better? I put a video together to control midi capable pedals on youtube but I'm still searching for some answers. For ex. how to bypass presets with the PX8+?

This is the video explaining how to control pedals via MIDI with the PX8+, I hope it helps a little bit!
