Cannot Communicate GCX with Ground Control Pro

I just purchased a GCX, but had the Ground Control for about a year. I used the Axess CFX and GRX4 as the audio switcher.

I'm having trouble setting up both units to communicate. Followed the instructions under the "GCX" manual (setup mode, extraction, GCX 1 on, etc), but when I reboot, the Active LED does not stay on (all 8 loops scroll and then turn off).

Is there a way to reset the Ground Control back to factory default? Or am I missing something else? Maybe setting up the device number and/or CC numbers?

Maybe there's something I missed.

Yes, the GCX is powering up using a 5 pin MIDI cable from the OUT of the Ground Control to the PEDAL IN of the GCX.

If the GCX is in fact enabled under Expanders and the Ground Control Pro is powering up, that would leave the MIDI cable as the likely culprit. Does the Active LED on the GCX flash whenever you press any of the preset buttons on the Ground Control Pro?

It flashes on occasion when I press down on one of the buttons, but it's not consistent. Sometimes I would have to press it two or three times to see any light show up.

I also tried two different MIDI cables, but I can purchase a new one and try it out before ruling that out.

Brand new. Bought it on Musicians Friends over the Christmas holidays. I'm fearing it's defective.

When I go back to the studio tonight, I'm going to unplug all the pedals, MIDI Thru, and everything out of the GCX and just try the Ground Control and GCX again.

Is there a factory reset on the Ground Control? I've been using it for about a year now with Axess audio switchers so it's pre-programmed.

Simplifying the test setup is always a good idea.

To reset the Ground Control Pro memory check the Setup Mode section of the Ground Control Pro manual. Under Utility you will find the Initialize Memory instructions.

FIXED!

culprit: faulty MIDI cable. How is it possible that the two MIDI cables I tried were faulty? Anyway, purchased a new one and everything is working fine. Well...

I tried using Loop 7 and 8 as the effect loop (noise gate and G major), however, it appears that Loop 8 is not working. Pretty much tried everything to rule it out. Decided to move it to Loop 6 and 7 (and works fine!).

Is there a way to test Loop 8, is that a loop used for a special occasion (kinda like the Axess GRX4). Thanks!
