Getting Shimmer Using Parallel Set Up

Post by dbetters »

Hey Everybody,

I need some advice. I want to be able to get the Shimmer effect that the Edge uses in many U2 songs. I believe I have plenty of gear to get it done. My question is how would I set it up with my gear. I need to set up the Shimmer effects in a parallel loop so that I can control the amount of Shimmer I have mixed with the rest of the rig. I am planning on using my Digitech 2120 Artist to accomplish the Shimmer. I currently have 3 GCX loops running into two Vox AC30's. I would either like to have a preset where the shimmer is in one AC30 and the "dry" signal with other effects is in the other...or I would like to have the Shimmer in both amps while being able to control the amount of Shimmer that is backing up the guitar. Does this make sense?

The 2120 artist can give me the pitch shift into delay and into the reverb.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I have a Digitech IPS33b that does this incredibly well. I just assign a pedal to control the mix% of the shimmer instead of trying to do any crazy parallel routing thing. Works in my rig at least.

You could use a couple GCX loops as A/B switches before hitting the amps to select either the "dry" feed or the "wet" feed for the first preset suggestion. I am unsure exactly how you would accomplish the second setup suggestion without the use of a parallel mixer, unless this is possible within the 2120 itself.

What exactly are the three loops that run into the two AC30s do currently? Are these AC30s models with or without an effects loop? Do you have a way to split the signal somewhere in order to feed the 2120 if you do in fact need to run this in parallel outside of the 2120?
